The research group ”Identification and Modelling of Biodiversity” (IMB) works with questions related to the understanding of the distribution of species and nature types in nature. Statististical modelling and GIS are central tools for the analyses, which are based upon information from the museum collections (made available by the Norwegian GBIF-node, hosted by NHM) and mapped environmental information (variation in topography, climate, geology etc.). The research group also deals with questions related to the division of nature into nature types, monitoring and mapping of species and nature types, and prediction of changes in nature, i.e. as a result of climate change.

Main goal

IMB shall conduct biodiversity modelling research of international standard, with special emphasis on the application of statistical tools to biological data. Thereby, IMN aims at becoming a national resource centre for prediction modelling of biodiversity patterns.

Vision

Through research of high international standard, IMN will be a driving force for biodiversity modelling in Norway and Scandinavia, of service to the Norwegian society.
