The Geo Laboratory at the Natural History Museum (Økern) specializes in imaging, chemical and structural characterization of geological materials.
Our Analytical Capabilities and Techniques
- Variable Pressure Scanning Electron Microscopy (VP SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis
- Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD)
- Single-crystal X-ray Diffraction (SXRD)
- Micro X-ray Computed Tomography (micro-CT) Scanning
The services of the laboratory are available to museum staff and external (industrial) users. Usage by master students is free of charge, however, PhD students and Postdocs may be charged depending on their funding status. Therefore, instrument user costs should be included in grant applications.
Operation of the instruments is restricted to trained personnel familiar with the analysis system, product documentation, general safety precautions and laboratory rules. New users need to undergo a training period before they are allowed to work with the instruments independently.
