The BioDATA Advanced wet lab course will start with field sample for DNA extraction to purification and optimisation of PCR product. The onsite course ends with sequencing-ready material, and sequencing results will be discussed remotely after the onsite course ends. We plan for 6 students from abroad to be taught with 6 local students. NO and ZA are chosen as sights for the wet lab work due to their advanced infrastructure. While we expect students from RU to benefit from access to these more advanced infrastructures, we expect students from NO and ZA to benefit from visiting and being exposed to each other's different biodiversity profiles.
Similarly to courses I and II, these will be 5-day intensive courses inclusive of overnight stay to promote social networking particularly amongst the students. The number of students (12) that will be included in this course is appropriate to ensure that all students receive close supervision by local staff and have enough access to necessary equipment and instrumentation during the course for them to complete their training.
