Temporary exhibition

Explore stories from the Amazon Fund

The exhibition Afluentes – Tributaries: Paths and Stories of the Amazon Fund presents photographs, films, soundscapes, maps and timelines from the Brazilian Amazon. It highlights projects supported by the Amazon Fund, including work on forest conservation, sustainable production and community development.

Visitors can learn about the people and places of Brazil’s Legal Amazon, an area roughly the size of half of Europe. The exhibition shares stories from Indigenous peoples, river communities, extractivist communities, family farmers, firefighters, environmental agents and public servants working to keep the forest standing.

The exhibition also presents sustainable products from the Amazon and shows how trade can create income for local communities while supporting forest conservation.

It is organised by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), in partnership with the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and Brazil’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

About the Amazon fund

  • Norway is the Amazon Fund’s largest contributor. Since 2009, Norway has contributed NOK 8.9 billion, representing 72 per cent of the total funding received by the fund. Norway’s support is part of the Norwegian International Climate and Forest Initiative, which works to protect tropical forests and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation.

  • The Amazon Fund is an international cooperation instrument that supports Brazil’s efforts to reduce deforestation in the Amazon. Donor countries contribute in recognition of documented reductions in deforestation in previous years. The fund is coordinated by Brazil’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and managed by the Brazilian Development Bank, BNDES.

  • The fund supports projects that protect forests, reduce inequality and create sustainable economic opportunities. Its work is based on cooperation with local and traditional communities, including Indigenous peoples, who have knowledge and experience that are essential to protecting the forest.
