Botanical Garden
Over 4,500 plant types from around the world. The garden consists of thematic gardens, including two greenhouses.
A botanical garden is a collection of living plants that can be used for research, education, public outreach, and conservation. The garden is divided into several thematic areas and aims to include as much as possible of the world’s plant diversity and climatic zones.
The Botanical Garden works to increase knowledge of the world’s plant diversity and understanding of how important it is to protect all of the world’s plants and ecosystems. Its living plant collection consists of more than 4,500 different plant species from around the world.
Today, more than 45 percent of the world’s plant diversity is threatened with extinction. Botanical gardens play an important role in efforts to conserve this diversity. To achieve this, the Botanical Garden in Oslo collaborates with other botanical gardens both nationally and internationally.

Get to know the Botanical Garden
Did you know that the Botanical Garden was established on the Tøyen Manor estate, which is one of Oslo’s oldest farms?
We have created a guidebook that tells some of the exciting stories connected to the place, and about everything you can experience in the Botanical Garden.
The book describes the different thematic areas, how you can find your favourite plants, and interesting stories about some of the special plants and buildings you will find in the garden.
The guidebook is for sale in the museum shop, the Climate House and the café Handwerk Botaniske, and costs 50 NOK. The book is available in both Norwegian and English.
Guided tours in the Botanical garden
We offer guided tours in Norwegian in the Botanical Garden on Sundays. The tours are free and duration is 1 hour. No registration beforehand is necessary. We also have a few other events in the garden in Norwegian, see full list:

Arboriculture in the Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden has a botanical purpose and is not a regular park. This means that the consideration for the plants, botany, and nature outweighs everything else.
