As head of the Botanic Garden, I encourage that our living collections and the Botanic Garden as a whole are used for research, public outreach, teaching and conservation of the world's plant diversity. Plants play a central role in both culture and nature. I am involved in several interdisciplinary projects about the relationship between humans and plants.
My research is concentrated on ethnobotany, molecular identification and DNA barcoding and I am associated with the research group for Evolution, eDNA, genomics and ethnobotany (EDGE).
I am particularly interested in the impact of humans on wild plant diversity through thousands of years of plant use and trade and use data from both biological and cultural sources in my research.
