Reussinella arctica

Reussinella arctica, which in older literature may be listed as Reussina impressa, has only a few records in Norwegian waters. It has been found off Svalbard, and that is really it. We have found it during our project, but only a few colonies.

Does that mean that the species is rare? Maybe, maybe not. A larger number of data points is needed to be able to say something about the population of Reussinella arctica.

In terms of characters, there is not that much going on with Reussinella arctica (and no, this is not me trying to be mean). The species has quite small ovicells, two spines in the distal part of the zooid and the zooids have a granular surface. This means that it can be recognized with a decent stereo microscope, but you should double check with similar genera such as Megapora, Ramphonotus and Amphiblestrum to make sure that you have the right genus (and species).
