Notoplites evocatus: A deep sea species

Notoplites evocatus is a species that is not often encountered. We have only found it a couple of times during our project, and always in deep sea samples. In the literature it is described as an Arctic species, but it has also been found at great depths in the Atlantic Ocean

It is quite recognizable by its frontal avicularium that is long, slender and bent over the frontal membrane. Otherwise, the zooids are relatively slender, and they have three to six long spines.

In older literature you can find this species described as Notoplites normani, but this name has been synonymized.
