Here is some practical information regarding your stay in Oslo. We assume most, if not all of you, will arrive at Oslo Airport (Gardermoen). To get into the city center (Oslo central station) you have a couple of options regarding transportation, but the train is the fastest option (and cheaper than bus and taxi).
Transport
There are two options when it comes to trains: The airport train and the regular trains. The airport train (Flytoget) is more expensive, but might have more seats available. The regular train is cheaper, but there are fewer departures that will stop in central Oslo and can be more crowded.
If you’re planning to use public transportation during your stay in Oslo (and perhaps do some sightseeing), I would recommend getting an Oslo Pass - Official City Card, but you can also buy tickets at certain small stores/kiosks and in the Ruter app. Oslo is also quite a small, walkable capital, so those staying centrally may not need public transportation.
For the conference itself, the symposium location in Botanisk hage can be reached by different means of transportation. Walking is an option, and from the city center to the Gardens it’s approximately a 20-minute walk.
The subway/metro station closest to the conference location is called Tøyen, and from there it’s a ~10-minute walk to the gardens. You can use the no.17 tram to Lakkegata skole (it will be a 5-minute walk) or you could take a bus (the line 31 stops at Sars’ gate which is also a five-minute walk from the gardens).

Location/stay
The Larwood location is in the Botanical Garden at Tøyen, which is not very far from the city center, so we do recommend finding a place to stay that is either in the city center, or a place which has access to public transportation that can take you directly to Tøyen.
Suggestions for hotels: Anker hotel (Important: Make sure it’s the hotel and not the hostel!), Citybox Oslo and a big selection of Scandic and Thon hotels, in which several of them should be reasonably priced. If you use specific sites/apps for booking, see if you can get a deal somewhere!
Airbnb is also an option.
Sightseeing
If you have time for some sightseeing, the Oslo pass will give you free entry to a variety of museums and discounts on other experiences as well. Other places worth visiting could be the Vigeland sculpture park, The Holmenkollen Ski Jump and The Opera House.
If you like nature experiences, you can easily take the metro (especially the 1 Frognerseteren line) to various scenic areas with great views of Oslo or the bus to either Fornebu (line 31) or Bygdøy (line 30). Both places are great if you want to go for a stroll/walk, and you can easily get to the shoreline. At Bygdøy you can also spot fossils from the Ordovician! Østensjø lake (Østensjøvannet) is great if you like birding as it hosts many local species and occasionally rare guests.
Food (and drinks)
During the conference, two lunches and coffee breaks will be supplied. The conference dinner will be on Monday 1 June at the conference location. We will also be planning an ice breaker for 30 May, and information will be forthcoming a couple of weeks before Larwood.
