STADIS Events
The Tangled Bank Seminar Series is the Natural History Museum's venue for talks on biological and geological diversity and the processes that shape this diversity.
The expression "tangled bank" refers to the concluding paragraph in Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species (1859):
[. . .] It is interesting to contemplate an entangled bank, clothed with many plants of many kinds, with birds singing on the bushes, with various insects flitting about, and with worms crawling through the damp earth, and to reflect that these elaborately constructed forms, so different from each other, and dependent on each other in so complex a manner, have all been produced by laws acting around us. [. . .]
Scientists in Action (SNAC) meetings provide an informal venue for discussing concepts and research relevant to the STADIS themes.
