Due to DNA technology, we discover new species at a much higher pace than we are able to formally describe. Some of the rules in the codes of nomenclature no longer fit well with the need to rapidly name new species diversity. We will gather to discuss these challenges and possible ways forward. We will consider questions such as:
Need species diversity be formally named?
If so, how can we formally name dark taxa? …and, how can we speed up the process? What changes to the CODE would be needed?
If not, what would be the alternative? How would we be able to ensure stability, quality, and universal taxonomic communication?
How can we preserve the knowledge linked to species names if we move away from current practice? And what would be the risks?
