Academic interests
I’m interested in macrofungi, bioinformatics and the use of natural history collections. My PhD research focuses on four different projects with the main aim: Explore and expand how Natural History Collections (NHCs) can be utilised in fungal biodiversity research.
The four different projects are currently set as follows:
-
Spatial phylogenetic diversity of fungi in Norway
-
Trait diversity of fungi in Norway
-
Fungal diversity on Svalbard
-
Value and diversity of NHC specimens
Background
- Bioinformatic / data scientist for Bio-Prodict in the Netherlands. Developer to help guide scientific research in the fields of protein engineering, molecular design, and DNA diagnostics.
- Master’s degree in data science at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. During my master's, I spent time in Svalbard to do fieldwork on 3D model mountain outcrops around the west coast of Svalbard. I finished my master's with my thesis at EMBL-EBI in Cambridge looking at methods detecting protein-protein interactions “Quantifying the Biases in Molecular Interaction Detection Methods”.
- Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics in the Netherlands. I finished my bachelor with a thesis on Fungi on Svalbard “Using Exact Sequence Variant Analysis to Create an Overview of the Distribution of Arctic Fungi on Svalbard”. Graduated with honours.
