Research
With a background in geochemistry, mineralogy and petrology, my main research interests include the materials, origin, evolution and dynamics of Earth and planetary interiors. In an early period, I carried out some petrological and geochemical studies of magmatic rocks from the Oslo rift and the Northeast Atlantic, primarily from Iceland and Jan Mayen. My main research, however, has involved experimental high-pressure and high-temperature investigations in various laboratories and synchrotron facilities in Canada, Germany, Japan, England, USA and France. More recently, in 2013-2023, my research team at the "Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics" investigated phase relations and mineral physics from first-principles atomistic simulations (theoretical quantum chemistry). I have recently also ventured into the field of planetary formation around G-, K- and M-stars, based on the large and rapidly expanding database of observed exoplanetary systems.
