Vegetation-climate feedbacks in Aftenposten Viten
We asked hundreds of children at the Oslo Science Expo what they think will happen with the trees in the mountains when Norway gets warmer and wetter. Almost all said the trees will die. This wrong answer inspired us to write a popular science piece on the feedbacks between vegetation and climate, now available (in Norwegian) in Aftenposten Viten.
Spruce at the treeline in winter. Spruce trees affect albedo, carbon storage and ecosystem emissions, among other climate effects.
The Viten article is a collaboration between two GEco members and four colleagues through the EMERALD and LATICE projects. The idea came through the "Natur i endring" project, which was NHM's theme for the science expo 2019.
The main purpose was to shed some light on the many connections and feedbacks between vegetation and the climate system, focusing on the Norwegian mountains for examples.
