Flying reptiles - Pterosauria
Flying reptiles appeared in the Late Triassic (210 million years ago). This group existed for almost 150 million years and went extinct by the end of the Cretaceous together with the dinosaurs.
The fore limbs of the flying reptiles evolved into wings whereas the hind limbs were rather small. The skeleton was light-weighted and the long jaws had either teeth or evolved into a beak. They were all carnivorous. Their bodies were covered by fur and they kept a constant body temperature. Most flying reptiles were small, but by the end of the Cretaceous (70-80 mill. years ago) giant forms developed, and Pteranodon, with a wing span of more than 8 meters was one of these.
