The fungus gnat fauna of Greenland

The ongoing project Greenart, based at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, University of Copenhagen, aims to produce an Identification handbook of the insects and arachnids of Greenland. Scientists from NHM contributes to the project by treating the fungus gnat families Mycetophilidae, Bolitophilidae and Keroplatidae (Diptera, Mycetophiliformia). The handbook is expected to be published within the end of the year (2009).

The chapter on fungus gnats includes keys for identification to species level. All species are commented on and line drawings of genitalia are given. Not unexpectedly, the fungus gnat fauna of Greenland contains several species with their main distribution either in the Nearctic or in the Palaearctic region. The contribution represents the first comprehensive review of the fungus gnats fauna from any larger Arctic region.
