Special fields

My general research interests are phylogenetic reconstruction, biogeography and phylogeography. I'm particularly interested in the different aspects of genomic and transcriptomic evolution and phylogenetic reconstruction of polyploid plants.

Current research focus on developing lab protocols and analysis pipelines for utilizing next generation sequencing platforms to address phylogenetic, bio- and phylogeographic questions in di- and polyploid non-model plant groups. I am also trying to reconstruct the Holocene vegetation history from DNA in high-altitude volcanic lake sediments from East Africa. Analogous to poking an open wound, I'm doing some fossil calibrated molecular dating studies too.
