Academic interests

My main research interests are in population dynamics and community assembly of dead-wood dependent fungi. In my PhD project, I studied the ecological requirements of wood-inhabiting fungi, and their responses to forest management and fragmentation. One of my current projects, Habitat fragmentation and pathways to extinction in dead-wood dependent fungi, aims at identifying the ecological and genetic processes that disentangle those species of polypores and corticioids that have or have not responded negatively to forest management and fragmentation. Another project, Wood-inhabiting corticioid homo- and heterobasidiomycetes in Norway, increases knowledge about the diversity and distribution of corticioid fungi in Norway. We compare fruitbody-based and DNA-based diversity screening methods to evaluate the efficiency and accuracy of molecular screening. The project Fungal conservation genetics: Effects of forest fragmentation on genetic diversity in dead-wood dependent fungi in space and time examines how fragmentation and other factors shape the genetic structure in polypores, and affect rare and red-listed species and their possibilities of surviving in changing forest landscapes. Within the project Scenarios for a sustainable future forest green infrastructure, we test for effects of forest structure, spatial connectivity and climate variables on the (meta)population dynamics and occurrence of ecologically different sessile and mobile species, and develop models for the large-scale distribution and landscape-scale (meta)population dynamics of focal species combining systematic research data and Citizen Science Data.
