About The Natural History Museum

The museum is a part of the University of Oslo and consists of the Botanical Garden and the museum buildings at Tøyen in central Oslo.

We also have a collection facility at Økern. Our main tasks are research, collection curating and scientific outreach. Our scientific collections contains over 6 million objects, making them the largest natural history collections in Norway. Part of these collections are on display for the general public in our zoological and geological exhibitions and botanical garden. We have approximately 160 employees. Among these are about 70 scientific positions within biology and geology.
