This gallery contains photographs of lichens, mainly from Norway, but there is actually no geographical restrictions to what we put on the server. Most photos occur in two versions: one down-scaled (usually 800 × 600 pixels, rather heavily compressed jpeg, often edited for brightness, colour balance and sharpness), and one in full size (usually not edited, straight from the camera).
You are free to download the photographs and use them for non-commersial purposes. For commersial purposes, please contact the copyright holder(s) (indicated for each photograph on the Index page). The E-mail adresses for all copyright holders are listed under the Copyright link - alternatively, contact the Webmaster. The file names contain information about the photographs, see the File Names link for details.
NEWS! A web service for developers who wish to use our photos directly in their applications. See the documentation.
We are now using focus stacking software (CombineZP) for minimum diffraction and unlimited depth of field, see e.g. this photo of Toninia tumidula.
Focus stacking enables us to show some 3D images of lichens!
