Even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla)
The even-toed ungulates are the most numerous group of hoofed mammals living today. The evolution of the limbs involves the reduction of the number of toes to four, and eventually to two toes on each foot. Many species have antlers or horns.
Even-toed ungulates contain groups such as pigs and hippopotami, and ruminants like antilopes, mooses, buffalo, camels, reindeer, sheep, goats and cows. The oldest fossil forms are from the Eocene. The even-toed ungulates evolved from the chondylarths. List of contents in the artiodactyle showcase
