This was a gymnosperm tree with fan-shaped leaves with fork-shaped nerves which did not connect with each other. In Mesozoic times there were several families belonging to the same class, very common in Jurassic and Cretaceous. Today only one species from this family is still alive, the Ginkgo biloba in East Asia.
